1.17.2014

i Loved Loved my wedding day. since Jake came in from hong kong the day before and would only have two days with his family before we left on our honeymoon we decided to do a very family oriented and intimate day. we got married in  the afternoon in the newport temple and had  a family dinner in the five crowns restaurant in the green house... it was such a great day, my friend david bourne took our temple photos and  my photographer for the rest was Cinthya Nunez ( who did film and digital) who i became friends with in high school (and actually introduced me to my love of photography and art) and my videographer was lex and her husband loren who i have been friends with since college.  i didn't post all the days photos but here are some of my favorite bits
i did my makeup and lindsey did my hair...
i made the headpiece out of an old necklace that julie gave me.
my dress i found while visiting lindsey in seattle and we found as a display in an old vintage home store
we lucked out and had a perfect warm dry day in january

Jenn (look up her stuff at the trim shoppe) made me 100 of these beautiful hand folded and hand sewn stars.. she used pages of love stories and one chinese cookbook
it was perfect to dance under and even tied into our first dance song ....
we didn't do cake or bouquet tossing, or any other dancing even  we kinda skipped  the traditional wedding activities but i have always loved first dances and loved dancing under these

i love rocks i love love rocks...and my brother in law alex hand sawed all of these river rocks we collected in oregon and made place card holders out of them!!

i dont' know how to flip that picture

my sister Moriah handmade all of these soaps (with the help of her goat) to use as favors ...i stamped linen bags with the date and we used them for people to find their tables she made my two favorite kinds charcoal and  goat milk and honey (and the kids got candy)
and did i mention i love love rocks? my sister moriah also hand crotcheted the most beautiful river rocks to put on each of the tables . she pretty much made the whole wedding with her talents
i basically wanted my wedding to look like fern gully with tons of candles so we saved up milk jars and turned them into terrariums for candle holders and emily lent us antlers from her husbands families farm for all of the tables!
i basically turned the day into a my favorite things party, leafs, rocks, bones, candles and jake

my flowers were done by my talented friend Aubrey Laidlaw and we  used beautiful vintage trophy pots for the centerpieces (from Tuvalu in laguna beach)
and some of the crackle pots from anthropologie
since it was in a green house i didn't want any colors  besides tons of greenery

see fern gulley!!
my mom and sisters with the help of jaymi and emily
set everything up so so beautifully. I wish i could eat at this table everyday of my life.

we did a first dance and had the dads toast and then just ate!   even though there were a lot of people i would have loved to have had around us that day, with how little time jake had there and the fact that i would be moving across the globe right after i am so glad we did our day this way.  it was perfectly cozy and magical
and of course i couldn't have done a wedding without my mom by my side!!
all hail queen lori

he's just so handsome
i also want to post photos of the beautiful invitations that bethany did but i need to take photos of them first! (i love them so much i'm getting frames made for them in china)
and the night before we got married instead of doing a rehearsal dinner we did a big family pizza and donut party at our house so the families could get to know eachother.
it was the best marriage i've ever done.

parker

on the way home from the desert darci and i stopped in palm springs and lived it up by staying at the parker... unfortunately due to the wind storm all the power was out, but after conning them into giving us a room with low power on the back up generator it kind of made it all the cooler. i could explore the grounds there over and over if i could afford it.

wing span

a humming bird built a nest in our backyard...it was mesmerizing... unfortunately it was low to the ground and was snatched up before i could have all my dreams come true of seeing a baby humming bird (and stealing it and raising it as my own). it brought back all of my childhood days spent under bushes every time i went to go check on it.

determination

i'm determined to catch up on this and i'm also overwhelmed trying to catch up on a years worth of photos ..but i gotta start somewhere, this is the closest thing to a journal i keep. last january darci and i went on a trip to the desert and stayed at a real fun site in joshua tree, where they refurbish old trailers for a  "trailer palace". bascally its luxury camping...which happens to be my favorite kind. despite the massive wind and sand storms we got hit with we headed to the desert for rock and treasure hunting and were not disappointed .. even the weird way maps told us to go led to such beautiful hidden spots. and anywhere there are rocks and bones i'm pretty happy to be also.

oh, you thought i was done posting pictures of a ceramics classroom?

mouth watering

so i signed up for a ceramics wheel class at the local college last winter semester...

it was probably my favorite life choice ever... it's so different from any art medium i use and its so hard and frustrating and therapeutic and i love it...like to the bottom of my heart i love it ...it kind of turned into a relationship, at first i struggled, then i got addicted and it consumed my thoughts, and right when i got comfortable and in my rhythm it was over leaving me abandoned and wondering what to do on my monday and wednesday nights

i don't know why i never brought my real camera and only used my iphone. the supplies alone are like eye candy to me...i love a good crumble

and let me just tell you... more than anything else...it's the smell...it literally makes my mouth water. you guys there is clay dust everywhere and the wet room? wet earthern clay trapped in a room?! if i told you i got so tempted i ate some would you think it was weird? cuz i did not.

thug life

my sister and her daughter... who is the only one of her children who enjoys getting her photo taken...which we take full advantage of
photo credit to my nephew brandon on this one...and travis for catching me the chickens...i like to hold them but something scares me about actually having to catch one...(i know what they did to the poor turkey)
i get so shutter happy every time i'm there but oregon is just so beautiful...maybe if everything wasn't so lush and covered in moss i could calm down.

Berthrong farm

so saying i'm bad at posting is getting redundant...but for sure this time i'll keep up on this thing...so here comes a years worth of blogging... i went to my sisters up in oregon last winter and as always it was perfect.did i mention they live on a christmas tree farm? it just doesn't get cozier. also i'm pretty sure frederick wore that exact outfit every single day i was there. why mess with a good thing?

oh hi

i haven't blogged since before christmas so saying i'm behind is an understatement, let's just blame instagram and move forward ....

I went to portland awhile ago and my sister and i did some redecorating in rue's nursery, we used wood from her backyad and just cut out butterflies and did a front and back around fishing wire and glued some to the wall....we were happy with it, but i think their cat was more excited about it then rue was...which is probably better as it keeps it safe from little hands, also i think it translates better in real life over a photo because its more fluttery looking
